She was a Pharmacy Tech for 3 years then did Pre-Med and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico.

She is currently an ICPA Member and certified in Webster Technique and currently enrolled in the program for CACCP. She is also certified in Orthospinology, an Upper Cervical Technique.

Mercado was a member of the Student Ambassadors Program, which shared the core values of Sherman College and its utmost professionalism. She was one of the students charged with bringing chiropractic to the world. She volunteered for 13 quarters as an ambassador. She served for a year as the Secretary of the Students Ambassadors and President of Community Service. During her tenure, Mercado was instrumental in the recruitment and the advancement of chiropractic awareness within the community, earning her the award of Student Leader of the Year at Lyceum 2020.

Mercado served the beautiful community of Plainview, Texas, and helped families, pregnant women, kids, adults, and seniors, keeping them thriving and getting them to live their best lives.

She is married to Francisco Polanco and has 4 amazing children, twin sons Jaysuan and Josuan, Chelsy Marie who is a Zumba Kids instructor, and Xolahyris who plays volleyball for the Puerto Rican team. As a family, they love to serve God and their greatest satisfaction is bringing happiness to others.
